J & L Door Service is excited about Garage Door Safety Month’s attention to residents in Chesterland, Cleveland, Mentor, Painesville, Solon, Streetsboro, OH, and throughout Northeast Ohio. The issue of garage door safety may not be something that homeowners are aware of existing. However, 20,000 to 30,000 injuries happen annually because of garage door accidents.

Injuries can result from faulty parts, including springs, cables, and rollers. Other dangers include the tracks, the door itself, and numerous other components that require annual maintenance. Many of the elements of garage doors are under tension, such as the springs and cables. If these were compromised, they could fly into someone or possibly release the door.

J & L Door Service advises the following steps to ensure the safe functioning of overhead doors, rolling overhead doors, and roll-up garage doors in Chesterland, Cleveland, Mentor, Painesville, Solon, Streetsboro, OH, and throughout Northeast Ohio.

Look at the garage door components, including doors, springs, cables, and rollers for wear and tear. Be on the lookout for rusty springs, frayed cables, and questionable chains.

Listen for grinding or scraping sounds from the tracks, pulleys, motor, and rollers.

Learn safety tips such as keeping the door opener, remote, switches, and more out of the reach of children. Watch children during opening and closing to make sure they are not in the way of the door or have their fingers and hands near door sections, rails, or moving doors. The same goes for adults. Also, keeping all openers and remotes out of sight is a great way to deter theft.

Remember to report any concerns about your overhead doors and roll-up garage doors to a trained garage door professional.
